Cold sore help?

ok, so I get nasty cold sores from time to time. Got a sunburn on my lips last weekend & now I'm paying for it. Have a Monster one on top that's going for biggest & most painful I've ever had & a slighly smaller one smack in middle of lower lip. My prescription pills only work at the first tingle if I take before the sore erupts & I missed my 2 minute time frame. I look like an ogre. Anybody have any useful tips/tricks that I haven't already tried??? P.S. I've tried every over the counter topical in my lifetime & they don't work.
